Wagner & Buchholz Win National Youth Doubles Championship June 10, 2012
Oak Ridge, TN/June 10: Wheeler School’s Breck Wagner and Moses Brown’s Chase Buchholz have been training at the Narragansett Boat Club for three years to prove that practice does make perfect. This weekend they proved that they were the crew to beat as they cruised through their preliminary heat and the semi final, each with the fastest time of all eighteen crews entered. This morning they proved that they were the class of the field as they took first off the line and continued to move away from the competition to win with a high, closing sprint 8.3 seconds ahead of the nearest competition.
All of the crews in the competition had to compete in their respective regional championships to qualify for this regatta. Last year, rowing in the same event, Wagner and Buchholz finished six seconds behind the winners to gain a bronze medal. They continued to train through the summer resulting in a gold medal performance at USRowing’s Club Nationals. They did a repeat of sorts in the fall when they raced up the 3-mile Head of the Charles course to win the Junior Men’s Double Sculls. This was easily a prime motivator for them to continue their winning ways into 2012. Their next goal may be competing in the 2012 Senior and Junior World Championships, which will be held inPlovdiv, Bulgaria, August 14-19.
