NBC Youth 1 Ends With Potter-Like Flourish July 15, 2011

Providence/July 14: With a Harry Potter theme laced through the program, as well as decorations throughout the boathouse, the Narragansett Boat Club completed this first phase of its summer program with a regatta that featured races from zephyrs to a magnificent six-boat finale that spanned eights to doubles. Many of the races had very close finishes. In addition, as a small celebration of the summer program’s 40th Anniversary, many of the top-placed boats received original NBC Junior Scullers ribbons and pins. All races were rowed against an incoming tide, slight headwind, very flat water, and cool temperatures. Races were rowed over the “A” Course, starting at either the 1000 meter mark or Buoy #7 and finishing at the north rail of the north deck of the boathouse. Many of the scullers rowed in three different events. We had an excellent turnout of families and friends.

Many thanks to those who made this event possible. Referees: Tony Palms, John Ryan, Kit Wise, & Kristin San Bento; Drivers: Dave Rand & Jack Ryan; Finish Line: Ann Palms, Andrea Ricci, & Ricky Brightman. And certainly, many thanks to our coaches who have brought most, if not all, of these scullers along and provided major assistance throughout the evening to keep the program running on time: Dave Mercante, Emi Marchetti, Alice Murray, Katie Rand, Jill Hubbard, and Albin Moser.
