Oak Ridge, TN/June 12: Rowing in USRowing’s Youth National Championships, Anders Weiss,a Class of 2011 graduate of Barrington High School, placed third to win the bronze medal in the Men’s Youth Single Sculls. Weiss finished with a time of 7:39.8 for 2000 meters, behind the first place single sculler from Saratoga NY (7:31.6) and second place sculler from Dallas TX (7:33.8). This was a close finish since they were only 6.4 seconds behind the winning GMS Crew (7:04.2) and 2.5 seconds behind the silver medal crew from Saugatuck (7:08.1).

Approximately 30 minutes after this race, Wagner and Buchholtz joined Weiss and Eric Esposito, also of Wheeler School, to race in the Men’s Youth Quadruple Sculls Grand Final where they placed fourth, three seconds away from another medal.

An economics concentrator with a 3.961 GPA, the senior was chosen to receive the Elite 88 Award, which is presented by the NCAA "to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships." Petra was a member of Brown's Second Varsity Eight that helped the Bears capture their first NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championship since 2008, last month on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif.
