NBC Juniors Take 3 Gold, 2 Silver, and 3 Bronze May 22, 2016

Worcester/May 21-22: Eliza Kallfelz(7:58.901)and Brigid Kennedy(8:03.395) got things started with their 1st and 2nd place finishes in the Women's Youth 1X, far outdistancing the field. Riverside's Brigid Bane was a distant third with 8:25.368. Eight minutes later Jack Luby(7:09.794) took first in the Men's Youth 1X with a very close finish, outlasting Leon Chambers(7:10.976) from RA-Rye. NBC's Toby Satterthwaite(7:23.913) was third and the rest of the field farther back.

Eliza and Jack had to really hustle from the awards dock so that they could zip back up to the start to race in their doubles events. In the Women's Youth 2X the Cambridge duo of Matthes and Phaneuf(7:29.843) finished ahead of NBC's Eliza with Lucy Hamilton(7:34.301) who had a good lead over the third place GMS crew. Jack combined with Harrison Snow(6:44.215) in the Men's Youth 2X with a one length win over the GMS combination of Donadio and Schlyer. Meanwhile in third were NBC's Toby with Peter McKendall(6:51.151). Each of these scullers has worked extensively with Peter Wilhelm.

Sandwiched in between these races was the Men's Youth Lightweight 2X which had a very competitive race. New Canaan's MacNeal and Gregory (6:57.097) were duking out with the Greenwich duo of Lee and Seavey (6:58.711). Meanwhile NBC's Theo Golstein and Luke Demers(7:00.242) finished a very strong third.

All of these medal winners have now qualified to race at the Youth National Championships which will be held June 10-12, 2016, hosted by Princeton National Rowing Association at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ.

Rounding out the NBC sculling entries for the finals, Aidan Novis, Adam Dolce, Cameron Benavent, and Charlie Markert were novice racers who had two great races, one in their qualifying hear and the other the final of the Men's Youth 4X. They finished in fourth place with a time of 6:50.181, pushing ahead of the RA-Rye entry by 2.8 seconds. The NBC girls' quad (Ellie Hamilton, Claire Noble Shriver, Emma Vieten, and Grace Fay) was also entered in the Women's Youth 4X event, but they placed fifth in their heat on Saturday. Many thanks coaches Joan Brush who worked with the boys' quad and Lisa Evans who championed the girls' quad.
