NBC's Kallfelz, Luby, Hayda, and Satterthwaite Win at Lowell May 10, 2015

May 9 & 10/Lowell, MA: Competing at the 11th Annual Lowell Invitational Regatta, Eliza Kallfelz did what her older sister Emily did last year. With limited sculling miles, lots of meters on the erg, and other training, she won Event #128 Junior Women’s 1X with a time of 7:47.760. Also rowing for NBC was second Brigid Kennedy, a lightweight sculler, who finished in 8:00.298. Both girls had a significant lead over the rest of the field in the six-boat final.

In Event #129 Jr. Men’s 1X, Jack Luby took first place in 7:11.895. Very close in second was NBC's Peter McKendall who made it a tight finish. Peter’s time of 7:14.686 put him a length and half behind Jack. NBC’s Harrison Snow also made the final and finished 5th with a time of 7:29.069.

In Event #136 Jr. Men’s Lightweight 2X Artym Hayda and Toby Satterthwaite easily took first with a time of 6:36.094. Placing third in the final was NBC’s Theo Golstein and Luke Demers who placed third with a time of 6:59.122. Later in the afternoon Thomas Basso, Chase Penhallurick, Theo, and Luke finished 4th raced in the final of Event #158 Jr. Men’s 4X.

Other Rhode Island crews in the competition were St. Mary Academy – Bay View’s First (Event #125) and Second Varsity (Event #109) who finished 5th in each of their semi-final races. Barrington’s East Bay Rowing put four boats into their finals, with their Jr. Women’s Freshman 4+ taking second place in Event #139.

All crews rowed downstream on the 2000 meter Merrimack River Course. Many had to go through a preliminary heat and a semi-final to qualify for each final.
